i’m seeing a lot of people reblogging suicide hotlines and this is just a reminder that this is a suicide help line that works like a text-based instant messenger for people who may need to talk to someone but have trouble/are uncomfortable making phone calls

There are so many people who have such bad anxiety about phone calls.
This can save so many lives

this specific crisis hotline is known to be homophobic Christian organization that may very well have you institutionalized against your will. I’ve never seen a non-debunked version of this post on my dash before, but yeah.

as a general rule, you should always do research on the suicide hotlines you suggest to others because a) it’s very common that correspondents won’t be professional or trained to help people with chronic mental illnesses and/or may otherwise make the situation worse and b) it’s not the responsibility of a suicidal person to do research on whether a suicide hotline is unsafe for them, run by bigots, etc. while their life is in immediate danger.
